Are zoos necessary for education?
In today’s modern world, there is an increasing debate about whether zoos are fundamental for education or not. Regardless of the technological facilities to teach everything about mother nature, my thinking on this matter is that zoos are necessary. Below, the following essay will demonstrate arguments in favor of zoos. The reasons for my approach are intellectual and social.
From an intellectual perspective, visiting zoos is an interactive technique to acquire knowledge based on experience. Academic growth is usually cultivated with diverse teaching methods. Hands-On is one of them. Thus, from all the numerous benefits that zoos have in society, education is one of them. Natural Sciences teachers guarantee that looking directly at the animals encourages environmental awareness. Even though nowadays technological advancements allow the virtual recognition of the animals, it is strongly believed that human interaction will never be replaced by a virtual illustration. A recent study made by the primary school team at the University of British Columbia found that well above sixty percent of students love to learn through outside activities such as museums, zoos, and institutional visits. An eleven-year-old kid during a survey wrote ‘’It is difficult to forget information when you are learning under a memorable experience with your buddies’’.
From a social perspective, zoos are considered a recreational activity able to foster interpersonal skills. Recreational practices deliver the opportunity to grow as individuals. During the zoo´s visits, instructors usually prepare events after having accomplished academic purposes. These may include picnics, games, interesting conversations about the outside experience, and group pictures. Following this further, outdoor interactions collaborate to make us closer not just in the classroom. As an illustration two years ago the world-famous writer Molly Winters wrote an article in the New York Times about the benefits of outdoor activities. The article included how every educational trip from school was used to promote communication with her parents. Thus, it is evident that the positive outcomes of visiting places like the zoo are significant.
In conclusion, Socrates once said ´´Knowledge is power´´ and what´s best than learning outdoor. Mother nature found in zoos can be used to develop a clear understanding of the world’s environment. Likewise, the positive aspects of visiting them boost social growth.
