Is this more advantageous to students or companies?

Reported on IELTS June 9th, 2020

Nowadays, numerous schools require students to work without remuneration for organizations as part of their curriculum. From my perspective, this is more advantageous to students than companies because many jobs demand years of experience to hire any individual, and by practicing students can foster their professional skills. Below, this essay will support my view on this matter with arguments and illustrations.

Firstly, most jobs require experience. Thus, students working without payment can build a great resume early in their professional journey. In today’s modern world depending on the job’s field, it is difficult to acquire experience without experience. Therefore, to be part of any productive workforce many individuals start building their resumes working for free. The great upside of some educational institutions to students is that they offer as part of their institution’s benefits a portfolio with companies that will be willing to accept their students. Swiss Education Group in Switzerland is the best epitome. They have a tourism master’s degree of only one year. 6 months in the institution and the rest in a different country working for the administration of a well-established company.

Secondly, students receive the possibility to put their hands into action, boosting their skills to higher levels. Practice gives confidence and helps to increase knowledge in unexpected scenarios, which is excellent for getting better at conflict resolution. Likewise, language, interpersonal skills, diverse software manipulation speed, and creativity can be fostered by daily practice; A recent study made by the University of Harvard found that 6 out of 10 students with unpaid experience were more likely to acquire well-paid jobs in 2019.

In conclusion, receiving help from educational institutions to practice unpaid work in selected organizations has more positive aspects than downsides for students. Socrates once said, ‘’Knowledge is power’’, students with some experience before graduation are better prepared for today’s competitive world.
